Answer to Amar's Question (Amar read this)

Combustion is burning. Any type of combustion requires oxygen. This year you're responsible for combustion of hydrocarbons. The complete combustion of hydrocarbons produces two substances: Carbon dioxide and Water, in addition to energy.
You might be asked to write the equation of the reaction of combustion of a hydrocarbon. You might also be asked to list the products formed. After your write the equation of the reaction, you must balance it.
Example: Try practicing these examples
Write the equations of combustion of each of ethane, ethene, and butyne.
Solution: (the idea is the same for all types of hydrocarbons: alkanes, alkenes, and alkynes)
1- Combustion of ethane:
C2H6 + 7/2O2 → 2CO2 + 3H2O
2- Combustion of ethene:
C2H4 + 3O2→ 2CO2 + 2H2O
3- Combustion of butyne:
C4H6 + 11/2O2 → 4CO2 + 3H2O
To balance the equation:
First, balance the carbons
Second, balance the hydrogens
Last, balance the oxygens

    1- What are the ways to identify the anode and the cathode in a galvanic cell?
    2- In electrolysis, the the term "electrolyte" means the catalyst?
    3- What is the difference between a spontaneous and a non-spontaneous redox reaction and which is the galvanic cell the only one that has has spontaneous redox reactions?
    4- For both electrolysis of water and electrolysis of brine we use the electrolytic cell, or just for the electrolysis of water?
    5- Can I memorize that if an element is an oxidizing agent (oxidant) it means that its oxidation number decreased, and if an element is a reducing agent (reductant), it means that its oxidation number increased?
    6- The redox reactions of the electrolysis of water and the electrolysis of brine are to be memorized, or can they come in a different form?

  3. Hi Miss Aya, its Wael. I'd kindly like you to answer some of my questions about the following:

    - There's an exercise on the chemistry textbook P.45 ex 8. Part b of this exercise is so confusing!

    - Which is more reactive: Ni or Cu ??

    - If they gave us a certain room temperature and we are already given a table of boiling points, are the hydrocarbons listed liquids if they crossed this temperature?

    - May you please explain to me the carbon and nitrogen cycles?
